Every once in a while, appears a no-nonsense police figure and one of the notable figures is former Milwaukee County Sheriff David Jones Jr. The 60-year-old handed in his resignation to George Christenson, the Milwaukee County Clerk. He gained national limelight when he emerged as a vocal Trump supporter during the campaign period and after Trump became the President.

Over Three Decades in Law Enforcement

The Stetson-wearing sheriff has been in law enforcement for 38 years and is a lifelong resident of Milwaukee County. After completing his law degree at the University of Wisconsin, he joined the Milwaukee County Police in 1978 and served as a patrol officer for 11 years, then was promoted as a homicide detective, after which he rose up the ranks. After the resignation of the former Sheriff, Leveret F. Baldwin, Republican Governor, Scott McCallum appointed Jones, son of a Vietnam veteran, to the post of Sheriff, and was re-elected back into office for another three terms.

Cop under Fire

Sheriff Jones’ career in law enforcement has been marred by controversy, ranging from using excessive force when arresting suspects, to terming the Fergusson demonstrators as ‘vultures on a roadside carcass.' He once went on record to say that Black Lives Matter activists and the Islamic State were rallying to destroy America, comments which named him an enemy to the residents in Milwaukee and the US at large.

Despite his re-election on a Democratic Party ticket, Jones Jr. has progressively sided with the right, and he proved his stance by his pro-guns stand and public support for President Trump, a Republican. Before his resignation, he launched a book, ‘Cop under Fire’ and President Trump was one of the people who endorsed it as a good read on Twitter. He is moving on to a non-governmental position that will help in pushing President Trump’s agenda.
