The U.S. elections feature the two major political parties: the Democratic Party and the Republican Party. Besides these two, there are other parties dubbed “Third Parties” due to their minority standing. Independent candidates are those who run for president without any formal affiliation to a party.

The following is a short survey of three of these independent candidates.

Ken Fields

This entrepreneur, environmentalist, and real estate developer announced his candidacy on November 2015, after the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference. Fields, who resides in New York with his wife Nikki Noya, has a long range of projects in his portfolio including low-cost homes and office buildings. He is more well-known for his hotel and hospitality development.

His campaign rests on “The Solution Project”, which advocates for transforming to 100% renewable energy in the next 20 years.

Terry Jones

He is the Pastor of Dove World Outreach Center.  He is also the President of a political group named Stand Up America Now. Jones gained national and international fame when, in 2010, he proposed a plan to burn all Korans, the Islamic religion´s holy book, to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

He already was an independent candidate for the 2012 elections.  On July, 2013 he had already expressed his intentions of becoming a candidate again for the present elections and is listed as such.

Robby Wells

Robert Wells is a former college football player and coach. For the 2008 and 2009 seasons, he was the head football coach at Savannah State University.  In 2012, Wells tried to run as a candidate for the Constitution´s Party.  He only received 58 of 402 votes for the presidential nomination.

On November 3, 2012, Wells announced that he would be running for president again as an independent candidate for these elections.  But on September 2013, he announced that he would be running for the Democratic Party.  On March, 2016, Wells again announced running as an independent instead of for the Democratic Party.
